The American Legion sponsors a program of marksmanship and gun safety education for high school age youth. As part of the program, The Post provides a twelve-hour Basic Marksmanship Course (BMC) stressing firearm safety and pellet rifle marksmanship.  The course will improve the knowledge and skills of the student in matters relating to the proper care and safe handling of firearms; the management of target shooting & competitions; development of those qualities of leadership, loyalty, team cooperation, and good sportsmanship, which are essential to good citizenship.  All instruction is provided by National Rifle Association Certified Instructors and all firing events are conducted and supervised by National Rifle Association Certified Range Safety Officers.

Once students complete the BMC they are full-fledged team members of the Post Team and represent the Post in various air rifle tournaments.

The American Legion conducts an annual National Three Position Air Rifle Tournament, which provides shooters an opportunity to test their marksmanship ability in competition with other junior shooters throughout the nation.

Due to the physical restraints of the range, the Club is limited to six members.  A waiting list is maintained and once a vacancy exists, the person at the top of the list is selected for training in the Basic Marksmanship Course.

  • 2.  School attendance with passing grades is required.
  • 3.  Be capable of exerting 25 pounds of force to pump the rifle.
  • 4.  A strong desire to learn firearm safety and marksmanship.

A one-time initiation fee of $35.00 is charged to cover expenses.  There are noother additional fees as long as the individual remains an active member with the Team. The American Legion will provide Instructional Materials, Air Rifles, Ammunition (.177 Air Rifle Pellets), Targets and Shooting Range Facilities.
